Integrating the COMPUSHIFT 3 with a Haltech Engine Management System

TABLE OF CONTENTS

The COMPUSHIFT has the ability to connect to an Engine Management System via a digital CANBUS connection to receive the various signals needed for transmission control. In some cases this can greatly reduce the number of connections needed in comparison to using an analogue configuration.

In the case of the Haltech Engine Management System, there are two types of systems that we support:

  • Haltech Elite
  • Haltech Platinum

Each system requires a different approach to the wiring configuration as well as the Engine Type set in the COMPUSHIFT.

Setting the CANBUS Bitrate

Once the wiring configuration is done, you need to ensure the communication speed (or Bitrate) for the CANBUS Network is the same on all devices. Haltech "generally" uses 1000 KB/s as its default communication speed, however this can be configured to a custom value.

If you know what your Haltech bitrate is set to, then make sure the COMPUSHIFT is also set to the same speed.

Network Setup > CAN Bus 1 Baud Rate

You will need to cycle the power to the COMPUSHIFT after changing this setting.

Haltech Elite

The Haltech Elite system uses a CAN Hub to connect the various components together in a star type configuration. CAN Hubs can be daisy chained for additional componants.

Critical Elements

  • Haltech ECU MUST be in the first port of the first CAN Hub
  • Haltech IQ Dash MUST be the last component on the last CAN Hub
This means all components connected via CAN, must be connected in the ports that are between the ECU and the IQ Dash ports

Haltech Platinum

The Haltech Platinum system uses a Platinum CAN Hub to connect the various components together. The Platinum CAN Hub has CAN wiring that runs to and from each CAN component. It is vitally important that the wiring is done correctly for this to work.

Critical Elements

  • Haltech ECU MUST be in the first port of the first CAN Hub
  • Haltech IQ Dash MUST be the last component on the last CAN Hub
This means all components connected via CAN, must be connected in the ports that are between the ECU and the IQ Dash ports
  • There must not be any blank ports between the ECU and the IQ Dash.

DTC U0100 - Lost Communication with ECM/PCM A

If this DTC appears, then either one of two possibilities are the cause:

  • The CANBUS Bitrate are different between the COMPUSHIFT and the Haltech System
  • The Wiring for the CANBUS is incorrect and is not following the diagrams EXACTLY
